Northwest Itinerary B
Glowing in Wine Country
Discover the wine heritage of Arkansas during the joyous holiday season with a visit to Altus and Wiederkehr Village. These next-door towns located on the southern slopes of the Ozark Mountains are home to mid-America’s largest and oldest wineries.
- Get to Arkansas Wine Country early so you have time to tour or visit the tasting rooms of the wineries in this rich river valley region.
- Catch the Lighting of the Park at 2 p.m. on Dec. 9th in Altus with Santa on-hand to visit with children in the park gazebo following the parade.
- Then take short drive through the countryside to Wiederkehr Village for Christmas with a Swiss flair. Take in the glow of 50,000 twinkling lights and enjoy dinner at the Weinkeller Restaurant, a warm and cozy place housed in the original hand-dug 1880 wine cellar and serving continental cuisine.
Our suggestion – make it an overnight trip. Then you can spend more time the next day seeing the Arkansas Historic Wine Museum in nearby Paris or checking out the incredible 1902 Roman Basilica-style architecture of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Altus. The church is known for its paintings and ornate goldleaf work.
